in Carmarthenshire….

  1. Llanelli – quite stony with some coarse sand exposed at lower tides. Busy industrial town, fairly uninspiring promenade. Facilities in town, chargeable parking. Dog friendly.
  2. Burry Port – small harbour village with nice sandy beach but quite muddy shoreline. Facilities and dog friendly, nice long raised walk to Pembrey.
  3. Pembrey – magnificent 3 mile stretch of dune backed soft white sand beach. Low tide waters quite a way out. Popular with water sports. Lots of wooded space for walking in the country park at the back of beach. Popular but easy to walk to quiet areas. Facilities, small area with seasonal dog ban.
  4. Ferryside- odd little estuary side village, not very welcoming more local than touristy. Some parking and basic facilities. Dog friendly. Long stretch of low tide sand, though a bit muddy in places.
  5. Llansteffan – pretty village with lovely white sand beach, best of it is around corner from village heading towards castle. Facilities and part seasonal dog ban.
  6. Scott’s Bay – round corner from Llansteffan lovely quiet sandy beach. Facilities back in village. Dog friendly – recommended.
  7. Wharley Point – at low tide nice sandy beach continued from 6 above with good views of Laugharne Sands (military stretch of beach). No facilities but dog friendly.
  8. Laugharne Sands – closed during weekdays for Military use, so the photo is of the sandy estuary from Laugharne towards Pembrey on the left and Laugharne Sands at Ginst Point on the right. Deserted section of sandy beach. Facilities in Laugharne a mile or so inland.
  9. Pendine Sands – lovely long stretch of sandy beach largely taken over by the Military during the week. Busy during the summer with close proximity to a number of holiday parks. Parking and facilities- part seasonal dog ban.
  10. Ragwen Cove – small low tide sandy pebble backed cove. Small NT car park but no other facilities. Dog friendly.
  11. Marros Sands – fantastic stretch of pebble backed sandy beach only accessible from Coastal path or small access lane about a miles walk from road. Parking for a couple of cars at church just off road. No facilities but dog friendly and real find! Highly recommended.
