  1. Penarth – Shingley beach at high tide with some sand exposed at low tide, nice promenade walk along top with a few cafes and shops.img_3199
  2. Lavernock Cove – Stoney with sand at low tide, no facilities, space for a couple of cars at the church or hedged walk to Penarth.img_3197
  3. Jackson’s Bay, Barry – little sand gem of a cove at southern end of Barry by Port, dog friendly, parking in surrounding residential area and seasonal cafe.  Dog friendly.img_3227
  4. Whitmore Bay – main  beach in Barry, sandy cove with amusements etc up above, beach carefully maintained, large car park close by.  Seasonal dog ban.img_3222-1
  5. Watch House Bay, Barry – sandy beach at low tide, runs to mud as you go into harbour.  Facilities and large car park.  Dog friendly.img_3219
  6. The Knapp Beach, Barry – mostly stony beach with more sandy patches exposed at low tide.  Car park running along back with cafe – more facilities in town.  Dog friendly.img_3216
  7. Porthkerry Beach – mostly stony with sandy patches exposed at low tide, runs alongside the country park (nearest parking and facilities in park) – access to Knapp beach and Barry along beach at lowish tide.  Dog friendly.img_3217
  8. Watch House Beach – mostly stone beach but with a nice sandy island in the middle, surrounded by freshwater ponds.  No facilities and dog friendly.img_3137
  9. Leys Beach – stoney beach alongside power station, few sandy bits along groins.  No facilties and dog friendly.img_3131
  10. Limpert Bay – next to power station so far from pretty and mostly stony.  Free parking but no other facilities.img_3141
  11. Llantwit Major – stony start then large areas of sand at low tide. Beach about a mile from town but beach car park (chargeable), cafe and toilets. Seasonal dog ban.
  12. Tresilian Bay – pretty little remote cove, just one house nearby. Mostly stony but some sand at low tide. No facilities, dogs ok.
  13. St Donat’s Beach – quiet stony beach with plenty of low tide sand. Castle walls on shoreline – castle now a college so some students lunching in wall or beach. No facilities, dog friendly.
  14. Marcross Sands – lovely swirl of sand and rock face. Rocks barnacle covered so not great for dogs. Village a mile away, nearest facilities seasonal at Nash Point.
  15. Cwm Nash – stony beach with plenty of low tide sand. Car park (chargeable) and seasonal cafe and toilets up above. Early rockface limpet covered so not good for dogs paws but beach good. Lighthouse above.
  16. Monknash Sands – bit of a clamber over stony bank and exposed flat rock and then round the corner is this beauty, only exposed as tide goes out. Mile walk from village parking and Pub through pretty wooded valley.
  17. Wick sands – reached at low tide beyond Monknash Sands or by two rather tricky ladders. Naturist beach mostly on the rock ledges but at low tide plenty of sand and rock pools. No facilities, dog friendly
  18. Dunraven Bay – popular stony beach with wide sandy bay at low tide. Seasonal facilities and part dog ban.
  19. Ogmore-by-sea – long stretch of low Clifford coastline with sandy little bays appearing at low tide. Facilities in town or seasonally above beaches, part seasonal dog ban.
  20. Merthyr Mawr – a lovely walk through woodland and dunes from car park and toilet to miles of remote sandy beach. No facilities, dog friendly.
  21. Newton Beach – the Porthcawl end of Merthyr Mawr, busy sandy beach as large holiday park and dog friendly. Facilities.
  22. Trecco Bay, Porthcawl very busy pretty sandy bay – holiday park runnning all way along. facilities, seasonal dog ban.
  23. Sandy Bay, Porthcawl – lovely wide expanse of sandy beach with shallow blue waters. Amusements and arcades all along back – very busy. Seasonal dog ban.
  24. Rest Bay – a good mile beyond Porthcawl so much quieter, lovely long stretch of low tide sand. Pub and car park. Dog friendly.
  25. Kenfig Sands or Sker Beach – a lovely long stretch of low tide sand – accessed through a half mile walk through the Nature Reserve dunes. Free parking, cafe and toilets in dunes. Dog friendly. Recommended.
  26. Mariam Sands – continuation of Kenfig running into industrial area of Porth Talbot. Quiet and remote with access through continued Reserve.
